Manchester City have spent months pursuing the Chile international but, with Pep Guardiola reportedly unwilling to match Arsenal’s asking price, it has opened the door to a move to Old Trafford.
The Independent say United are increasingly confident of getting a deal for Alexis Sanchez done.
And it is said that the Red Devils are already turning their attentions to the player’s Arsenal team-mate, Ozil – in what would be a stunning dobule move.
The German played under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid between 2010 an 2013, signing after the 2010 World Cup.
07.55: Antoine Griezmann has supposedly told Real Madrid he will reject Barcelona if Los Blancos meet his demands.
In recent months Barcelona have emerged as surprising front runners for the player’s signature, with Griezmann being mooted as a potential replacement for Luis Suarez.
Yet Spanish outlet Diario Gol say the player is ready to turn his back on Barcelona to sign for Madrid instead – yet only if the club bow to his demands.
The striker is only ready to go to Real if they promise him first-team football.
Los Blancos’ current forwards are all misfiring, leading to talk one of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or Karin Benzema will jump ship at the end of the season.
And Griezmann wants to be promised a place in Zinedine Zidane’s XI, such is his reluctance to make do with a place among the substitutes.
The 26-year-old is also said to want help in order to realise his dream of winning the Ballon d’Or.
Jose Mourinho clever move
07:00: Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been very astute with his move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.
Those are the thoughts of former Everton star-turned-pundit Leon Osman.
Mourinho is looking to make additions to his squad, and has already lined up Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Bordeaux star Malcom as potential targets.
And Osman thinks Mourinho should take some credit for his interest in Sanchez.
“I think just by going for the player, he’s turning his head a little bit and making him think,” Osman told Sky Sports’ The Debate.
“He’s also potentially raising the bar and making Man City overpay.
“And if all else fails, he could get Sanchez which would be a top class addition to his sid
Mkhitaryan has been frozen out off Mourinho’s plans and has been discussed as a makeweight in a deal involving Sanchez.
And Armenian football boss Ruben Hayrapetyan says he has spoken to Mourinho on the phone.
“I talked to Henrikh on the phone, but I don’t want to make any comments,” he told Public Radio of Armenia.
“The coach-player relations can often worsen or improve.
“There is no need in intervening with their working process.
“Should he fail to regain his place at Manchester United, he can play in any other world-class club.”
Anthony Martial/Alexis Sanchez swap
06:00: Arsenal are reportedly prepared to let Alexis Sanchez join United as long as they can get Anthony Martial.
Sanchez has been mooted as a makeweight involving Mkhitaryan.
But according to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger wants to bring Martial to the Emirates.
United are supposedly reluctant to let Martial leave, but could comer back to Arsenal with a counter-offer involving Chris Smalling.
